Spearfishing Knives: 

While Spearfishing knives are still a valuable safety tool for divers, their main purpose it to aid in the quick dispatch of any fish you have speared. This is beneficial to both provide a more humane dispatch of this fish, and to avoid attracting any larger marine predators looking for a free feed (seals, rays, sharks), remember they are after your catch, not you! 

A spearfishing knife will have a stiletto like blade, possibily with a serrated edge on one side, as well as a quick releasing, reliable holster. Divers will typically mount this to an area with easy access, for example, the inside of the calf muscle, the thigh area, or even the upper arm. 

Function specific harvesting knives such as an Abalone knife (often called an Abalone are), are often a legal requirement for harvesting your catch.
